Calav190507055The guided excursion takes place along the nature trail Calavà, which probably represents a stretch of the Via Consolare Pompea built in Roman times to facilitate the movement along the Tyrrhenian side of Sicily from east to west.

This trip starts near Villa Giulia in Capo Calavà and continues up the hillside crossing the ancient Roman Calavà, a very characteristic granitic massif which hosts on its top an ancient watch tower. From the top you can have a wonderful view of the coast and the Aeolian Islands and you can enjoy an amazing sunset on the sea.

The path is surrounded by typical Mediterranean scrub, consisting of different kind of oaks, wild asparagus, asphodel, broom, heather, fern, mastic, spurge, etc.
