prodotti enogastromiciIn the territory of Patti and Tindari there are difficult-level wineries, some of which have important national and international awards ( the Gaglio Vignaioli, Tenuta Gatti, Antica Tyndaris and Daemone).

This is the Mameritno’s area from which is produced a DOC wine already appreciated in Roman times, loved by Julius Caesar and placed by Plinio in fourth place in the ranking of the 195 most requested wines at that time. Other DOC wines are the Faro, the Malvasia of Lipari and the Malvasia of Etna. To allow the tasting of these wines it is possible to organize a visit to a winery, which also includes the visit of the vineyards, the cellar and some explanation of the production process. Indeed in the Nebrodi Mountains (Montalbano Elicona, Basicò, Floresta) it is possible to visit the dairy companies and taste the provola and ricotta cheese. The pride of the cold cuts are those made with the meat of the “suino nero dei Nebrodi”, a particularly species of black pig of this area. This meat has a delicate and tender taste, and a very fragrant aroma. It contains oleic acid, perfect to fight cholesterol.

In November and December it is possible to organize a tour in an oil mill, to get a close look at how to get a good extra virgin olive oil. At any time of the year, you are able to observe the most renowned olive oil producers, and take part to mini-courses, that will allow to fully appreciate the extra virgin olive oil.

Another delight are the desserts: At Patti you can taste the Cardinali and the Pasticciotti cookies. The first are based on almonds and others on toasted almonds and meat. In Novara di Sicilia there is the ”jiditu d’aposturu” (finger of the apostle) biscuits, a roll of pastry filled with ricotta, covered with white and chocolate icing. In Tortorici you can appreciate the “Pasta Reale”, one of the oldest sweets in Sicily, with 50% grains of toasted hazelnuts from the Nebrodi, 50% of sugar.

This tour can be offered at the end of an excursion or as a stand-alone service.
