The trail starts in Nocera Mastro, near Contrada S. Lucia. It is characterized by the typical Mediterranean scrub, consisting of olive tree groves, citrus groves, hazel groves, chestnut groves and different kinds of oaks. You will cross the area called ”Vinciguerra”, near the so-called ”Valle Sacra”; (Sacred Valley), which was the battlefield during the last clash between the Arabs and the Normans, led by the Earl Ruggero d’Altavilla to free the town. At the difficultest point of the path, stands an ancient stone altar, called “Pietra Altare”, used to celebrate the dead during the battle according to the legend.
From this point you enjoy a panoramic sight on the Gulf of Patti, Cape Milazzo and the Aeolian Islands.
After a short lunch break, you will return to the starting point.

You can continue on request with a visit to the town of San Piero Patti, during which you can admire: the Arabite district, the result of the Arab domination of 827 AD, the Church of Santa Maria Assunta of 1500s, the Fountain of Santo Vito, the Fontana del Tocco in white Carrara marble, and the Church of Carmine annexed to the Convent of the Carmelitani Calzati of the XVI century
